Angel Moms In The Smokies On June 21, 2001, eight of the Angel Moms met in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. We spent five wonderful days together, in a cabin called Woodhaven. We had no idea when we asked, but the lady who took it is also an Angel Mom.....thank you Evelyn, you are in our thoughts and prayers In the soft gray predawn light My sleeping heart stirs Caressed by the healing image Of rolling green vaporous mountains Nourished by tender words Of affection, understanding, and acceptance. The pain of awakening is fierce My soul's broken shards lie scattered On the dusty floor of dreams lost. But here - Here are other moms Cracked in two by grief Struggling for survival. As we join hands in a circle Peace flows from fingertip to palm Tears fall, and are caught In a delicate web of love Where they glisten like diamonds Like prayers. With our arms around each other We become one, and the realization Envelops me like a wave I'm not alone! For a moment I can't breathe. In the candlelight, our angels surround us Knitting together our broken hearts Until together we form a quilt To remember our children And out of the dust and ashes Streams hope.
